This race was the most difficult one I have ever done! The course is beautiful, but unbelievably hilly!!! A challenge for fresh legs, let alone at the end of the LCW, and the cut-off is 6 hours. Not for the faint-hearted.
Once again, the atmosphere at the start line in Tenby was amazing, but the crowds quickly disappear as you run toward Pembroke. There wasn't much support except for the well-manned aid stations, but once you begin running through the Welsh villages on the way back, the support is really felt. Lots of people sitting outside their houses providing cheers and encouragement, additional water, sustenance and hose-pipe showers!
Finally, a little bit about the Long Course Weekend as a whole. Entering all three events is by far the best value for money in terms of entry costs and the amazing goody bag at registration. The cameraderie and support for LCW athletes is immense, and being able to layer all your medals together with the additional 4th medal, is a real treat to round off the weekend. The organisation overall is superb (I'll ignore/forgive the issues around Sunday's ceremony) and I would highly recommend this event to any triathletes looking for a different challenge.
