← Endure24 - Leeds

Endure 24 is a fabulous event. I took part in 2019 as a solo - my first time.  Everything was extremely well-organised from start to finish.  The basic premise, for those that may not know, is you do as many laps of a 5 mile loop as you can in 24 hours - from midday Saturday to midday Sunday.  Some people , like me, choose to do it on their own, others take part in teams, running laps in relays.

There is a real camorarderie amongst competitiors in this race. As a solo entrant it would have been easy for me to plod alng without realy being noticed.  However, tis is never likely to happen at Endure. The vast majority of runners offer a greeting or a 'well done' as they run past and it realy is a superb atmosphere throughout,  Entertainment is provided at the well-stocked race village, which has plenty of catering facilities too and, unlike many other similar type of events, the cost of these is not exhorbitant,  Solo runners are well looked after, with their own designted camping area and a large tent on the start and finish straight where supplies can be left.  This shoud have been for runners only, but it was sometimes a little crowded as others found their way in too. Despite warnings not to, a fair few relay teams were also handing over on the track, some right in front of the solo tent. It seems these are in the rules, but were not being enforced.

The only other gripe I have is that, in the current climate (pun very much intended) water was supplied in plastc cups.  Many runners seemed to be carrying their own cup, but the water stations must have generated tens of thousands of plastic cups that were thrown away during the event.  Having said that, the first day was scorching and the extra water stations that were put on were very much needed and appreciated, but the waste was significant.

All in all though, this is a fabulous event. Lots of happy marshalls making plenty of noise added to the fun.  People were running for a variety of reasons, but the level of support from all is fantastic. If you haven't yet experienced one fo the Endure 24s, I'd recommend you take the plunge and give it a go!
