← The Harry Hawkes Summer Raceday

Lovely locally orgnaised 10 miler.

Registration was quick and easy, no queues at all picking the number up on the day and it was located right next to the start so no long walk to the start. Whilst there were toilets the queues did get very long especially towards the start of the race so maybe need a few more adding as the race grows in numbers. It was nice seeing the 10k race all finish as we were waiting to start. Pre-race briefing was quick and clear and before we knew it we were off a little after half nine.

The race itself is very flat, mixture of roads and tow path next to the river. First few miles isn't that exciting and it mostly on pavement which does make it hard at times to get into your stride. Despite roads not being closed no real issues with cars and the marshals did a good job of making sure everyone was safe. Once you hit the river on the tow path the views are great and it is a lovely and pleasent run, you even get a glimpse of Hampton Court Palace. The aid stations were every few miles and just had water. I still haven't aquired the skill of being able to drink out of a plastic cup whilst running so I wasn't able to get much water down me during the race but they were at least well stocked. All the marshals were amazing  and shouted lots of encouragment.

Signage round the course was pretty good and most mile markers were pretty much bang on track. The lead up to the finish was good and the medal was well designed for the price paid. Overall a great race and would thoroughly recommed as a 10 miler.
