I decided to head to the Focus 10k as a last minute sign up, there was an option to register on the day so it was easy enough to do. I didn't know too much about the race beforehand so was unsure what to expect but I caught up with a couple of club members near to the start line. It was a hot morning, all three races started on time and we were soon on our way! The 10k course is two 5k laps, and you can drop out after one if you need to, this is a very flexible event and not huge numbers which is nice.

The first part of the lap is over fields, this was hard work as the ground is very uneven and heavy underfoot. Undulating is a fair statement as there seemed to be a lot of climbs but also some nice downhill sections, not much flat! After the first part you reach the new section this year which is a woodland trail bit. This offered some shade and respite from the sun and was a nice addition. A climb back up out of the woods was pretty testing but with lap one done, it was onto the next. I have to admit it was a lot harder than I thought it woulld be so not sure its a beginner route, its also not a PB race but it is scenic with a lovely atmosphere. The marshalls were very encouraging and water was available at two points on the route. There was also a lone lady playing the drums which was nice!

Having come through the finish line you get a nice medal and a great little goodie bag with water, banana, chocolate, lemonade, energy bar and some flyers. There is also a photo board for finisher photos. Race photos have also since been posted for free on facebook which is a nice touch and the interaction and response from Focus 10k social channels has been excellent.

I think the course was a bit short but to be honest, its a nice event and a tough but nice run so not peronally bothered by this but some people might be. Queues for the loos were not bad and there were some stalls for other food and drink.

Overall, a tough little run but really nice.
