· 2019 Half Marathon ·

Second time running the Big Half, and the start process had improved a little from last year but it does take a fair bit of time to get going. Being the time of the year it is, the weather is prone to be challenging, not sure what was worse, the icy cold in 2018 or the winds of 2019. Run by the people of the London Marathon, it's scheduled conveniently for the spring marathon season, and it's reasonably priced for being a big event.

The route is almost the first half of the marathon route backwards, from Tower Bridge out to the Docklands, round Canary Wharf, and back across Tower Bridge through Bermondsey and out to Greenwich, finish in front of the Cutty Sark. It's an iconic start and end, but the route itself isn't that great. Early on the route goes through a car tunnel which is zapping and the cobble stones in the Docklands are not easy to run on, but by the time you've made it back to Tower Bridge you're over half way and the support through Bermondsey is pretty good. The finish at the Cutty Sark is pretty epic, plenty of support.

The logistics at the end isn't the best, it is a fair walk from the finish line to the baggage trucks and it's congested and slow moving. Signage to get back to the station post-race could be better, if you don't know the area it's quite difficult to find your way around with the closed roads and crowds.

The goody bag is OK, the medal was breaking the norm last year but this year it felt samey. The tshirt is unisex and not very exciting, both year's editions have ended up in a box, unused.
