· 2019 Half Marathon ·

This was my second half-marathon having taken up running (via c25k) a couple of years ago. Bath Half (known as Bathalf) most certainly did not disappoint! From the anticipatory buzz at the Runner’s Village through to every street corner, support was in abundance. Beware the temptation to eat Haribo too liberally (I would say I could have easily eaten a packet or two by the end of the race if I’d accepted every sweet on offer!). The race itself was pretty flat (although I did notice some more climbing in the second loop due to waning legs, but nothing too bad...I think my total elevation was 91m with max elevation at 32m). I’d never run a loop half before and had some reservations as I tend to avoid loops at all cost in my training (it’s a psychological thing!). I actually enjoyed the predictability and the reassurance of knowing the bridge crossing at the top of the loop marked the half-way point of the loop. The medal and T-shirt exceeded expectations and the goodie bag was one of the best I’ve had! Jam packed with freebies and treats :-) As a newbie racer and slow but steady plodder, I highly recommend BatHalf to both those seeking speed & opportunity to beat PRs and those looking for a fun, friendly, buzzing and uplifting half-marathon race experience. Tips: - plan your travel & parking pre-event. I stayed the night in Bath, but park-and-ride and train travel seems to be the best option. - use the loos early (no queues an hour before race start but with 30 mins to go, it would have been impossible to make it to the start line on time) - don’t eat all the sweets!
