← Adidas Manchester Marathon

Well, this was my 1st marathon so obviously I don’t have anything to compare this with, however I have done many other races and this one was Top Notch! I registered online and there was lots of information sent via email and on their twitter feed. Considering that I was suffering from a bad case of full blown Maranoia, I was given absolutely no reason to panic as my Bib was sent through the post nearly 3 weeks before the race and there was a very detailed Instruction Booklet online. I gave myself extra time to get there as I anticipated that the traffic would be busy (I purchased a parking place at MUFC ground which was a 5/10 minute walk to the start) I did need the extra time, but to be fair there was lots of roadworks due to the building of a new Tram line. Of course there was a queue at the toilets, but there always is, and there were 20,000 people wanting to pee! There were lots of them though and I do always choose the wrong queue! It was easy to find the starting pens and the Pacers had huge time flags on their backs so they were easy to locate. I met up with some lovely Racecheck people who calmed my nerves #neverracealone ! There was amazing support throughout the whole race - fabulous marshalls, well organised water stations and amazing crowds! The amount of high fives that I had was fantastic and there were some brilliant placards encouraging us as we went. At every turn there were people with bowls of sweets - at about mile 18 I was very grateful for the ice pop that a very lovely local handed to me (it was getting a bit warm by then!) There was just one section of about 1 mile where the support was thinner but this was Carrington Road that passes through fields so not too many people about. The course was very well marked with each mile and also had a sign for each different area that we were entering. It was very easy for my family to get around the course, using the tram, to support me - they popped up in 3 different locations and then at the finish, which made my 1st marathon very special. The approach to the finish was packed with spectators - so it was difficult to spot my family! The photographers were all over the place and there was a camera at the finish line so friends at home were able to track me (using the marathon tracker app) and then watch live as I passed over the finish line! After the finish line we were presented with a great chunky medal and then a good quality t-shirt and some water and snacks as well as a pint of non alcohol beer! So to summarise - an absolute corker of a day! I loved it! I would 100% recommend it as I am struggling to think of any negatives! In fact, I have already booked it for 2020!!
