Exit or Brexit was a topically themed track marathon (or half) race which took place on a cinder running track at a school. Marathon was 105.5 laps with the half marathon 53 laps. Laps were counted using a timing chip which was attatched to the leg, so at least we didn’t have to count the laps. 😆 The thought of running 26.2miles around a running track might be deemed as hell, but I enjoyed it. I’ve done track marathons before and know how mentally tough they can be. On the plus side, the course is flat and there was a well stocked water station every 400 meters. Registration was quick and easy. Marshals were awesome and gave plenty of support. Finishers received a fantastic Brexit themed medal. It’s an absolute beauty. There was also the usual chocolate, beer and home baked cake on offer. In summary - Pros- Fun, friendly race. Flat course, superb medal and a great day all round. Cons- Music to keep runners occupied and motivated would’ve been nice. I heard a couple of runners grumble about the cinder track as they were expecting an athletics track. It didn’t bother me, in fact it was good training for a race I have coming up. That said, in the future it might be worth mentioning in the race guide that it takes place on a cinder track, rather than an athletics track. Thanks again to Team IGUN and marshals for a super day. Track marathons are tough but if you tackle them right, there’s plenty of positives. Would I do this race again? 100%, yes I would.
