← The RunLDN Victoria Park Spring Half Marathon, 10k & 5k

This race was a huge disappointment from start to finish... Very little info in advance as we had to collect race packs on the day. That was a disaster with queues so huge our start time was delayed by half an hour. When it’s cold and windy you could really do without hanging around. The start was a mess - no pacers or suggestion that faster runners go in front,. The course started with a section we had to run up and back, this was so poorly signed that most people missed the turning and ran out of the park into the road. And for the whole of this section runners were going in both directions with nothing to seperate them. We’d only been given the course map that morning, but the plan was 2 small laps, 2 big laps. However, after the first small lap a marshal waved us on and we missed the second small one, and therefore ended up running 9 and a bit k. The signposting around the course was awful, and there were 3 marshals. In a park that’s open to the public, with people running 3 seperate distances, that’s clearly not enough. We have more at our parkrun. So I was hoping that the “goody bag, bespoke t-shirt and medal” were going to make up for everything else, but I was wrong! The t-shirt is ok, but it’s not what I would consider bespoke - no mention of date, time, place, or distance. The medal is the kind school’s give out at sports day. I’m not averse to paying for a race (I ran the Virgin Hackney Half!), but putting profit before the safety and well being of runners is unforgivable, and I’ll avoid RunLdn in future.
