Like pretty much everyone else there, I entered this race to prepare for my big day at London Marathon. I loved the idea of not having to do another long run on my own, starting and finishing at my front door on the same routes I'd been using for months. So took it as a chance to practice my race day routine, travel and staying in control of my pace around other runners. For me it really worked. I used the laps (it's a 4 mile circuit) as a comfort to know I could change my mind and only run 16 (or if I felt strong / mad enough do the 24 miles). There was a lovely supportive atmosphere amongst the other runners, and it felt as though the organisers and marshals were really understanding of the extra effort we were all having to put in. Getting a medal and a goody bag was a great bonus - I chomped through the snacks straight away and felt as though the medal was a pat on the back for finishing my final long run after 12 weeks of hard training. So generally - yay to this event if you're marathon training - I'd do it again for that last confidence boost if I was doing London or Brighton again.
