← Cancer Research UK London Winter Run

My second time running this event. Quite expensive for a 10k but I love big city events and as a closed road run through the West End and the City I understand the costs. The event village is based at Trafalgar Square for bag drop, refreshments and merchandice, it is also the start area. My biggest issue with this event is the starting waves and they do not seem to have listened to feeback from previous years. I was in the first wave (based on predicted race times I believe) but as I waited in the start pen I was surrounded by runners wearing bibs with waves 2,3 and even 5. Groups of runners 4 and 5 accross make the first km or so very congested. I enjoy the route and that is why I came back in 2019, through the West End and The City passing landmarks such as St Pauls and The Royal Exchange. Excellent marshals on the course with one water station and pretty good crowd support on most of the course. Finish area is in historic Whitehall greeted by hugs from Polar Beers, a lovely medal and a few drinks and snacks. One other downside to this event is the long walk back to the bag drop from the finish area, its been bloody cold the last 2 years. I wouldnt say you get lots of value for this race but as its a big supporter of Cancer Research UK I’m happy to pay the costs if the money is going to them. Would I return again next year, probably not but maybe again in the future.
