A really good event from It's Grim Up North Running. Pre-event information very clear and good level of detail, including maps of the route. Marshals and signage on arrival in Saltaire, ensuring everyone easily found their way to registration. Registration venue warm, spacious, friendly. Registration process quick and easy. Chip timing for this one, and that too was quick to collect. Briefing at the start was clear. Nice touch to mention those with birthdays. Half marathon started from the canal next to Salts Mill, out towards Leeds for just over three miles (turnaround just at the bottom of a lock slope!), then back along the same path to Salts Mill. Good terrain for this first half of the run, largely on solid towpath or tarmac, but with a short section on mud/grass path (no slip issues today). For the second part of the run, some more obvious 'uphill' sections to just beyond the Bingley Five Rise Locks, then back (downhill!) towards Salts Mill and the finish. Slightly better terrain for this second part, with hard packed gravel/tarmac all the way. Refreshments (water, juice, cola, sweets) approx every 3 miles. Friendly marshals (who must have been freezing!). Good chatting to other runners as well. The out & back nature of this event makes it a good one for congratulating others. Great crowd at the finish. Lovely medal. Delicious cake.
