Location: Great island for cycling and triathlon, only 1:30mins from Tokyo on a jet ferry

Swim: They host the event at the wrong time of year! The weather in Japan is like clockwork so why hold a triathlon with an exposed open water swim in Typhoon (or season with strong storms) season? This would a great summer event or in May. Entered 4 times, only once have I done the swim, and once the jet ferry broke due to the swell and had to turn back (whole event was cancelled on the day).

Bike: Good bike course around the town and coastline of Oshima. Not too hilly.

Run: Along the coast path right by the Ocean. Finishes at the Onsen, and can warm up after pretty easy if it's wet.

Overall: Has the potential to be one of the best events near Tokyo if the weather is good. Arrange a hotel or chalet with a BBQ and make it more social. The organisers should think about moving to a better day... or building a multi billion dollar concrete seawall to stop the swell. Concrete being part of the Japan DNA I expect it'll be a great event soon but still held in June!

Exploring the volcano on the Sunday is well worth it. There's an Onsen at the hotel near the top.
