Absolutely brilliant half marathon! Everything about this event was fantastic and I can't wait to participate next year! Registration online was simple and you had the option of adding the Birchwood 10k for a discounted price too. There were plenty of emails keeping me updated before the event and the race pack came in plenty of time. At the start of the race, there are plenty of toilets and a bag drop, lots and lots of people congregating outside Warringtons golden gates and town hall was brilliant! The race itself started off with both half marathon and 10k distances starting together, it was very busy but the marshals were fantastic and getting everyone moving and it doesn't take long to get into your stride. From the town centre the race then goes into the scenic but hilly area of Appleton with the cantilever bridge, Stockton Lane then Broad Lane all in the first 4 miles. But after that, it's pretty much all flat or downhill! There were members of the public out along most of the route and the support was brilliant! Kids high fiving runners and handing out sweets too! There seemed to be a lot more water stations than I thought there would be, handing bottles of water, gels and jelly babies out to runners. The last 400 metres of the race is incredible as you turn a corner and we the golden gates again with the red carpet and lots of people cheering you on loudly! Running on the red carpet through those gates is something I will always remember! The medal, finishers t-shirt and goody bag were all fantastic too! By far the best event I have ever been to, this year I completed all 3 of the EHM races and ended up with 5 medals, I will be signing up for 2019 as soon as I am able to. Thank you to everyone who made the EHM possible! Absolutely brilliant!
