← Cancer Research Tough 10 - South Wales

I ran this 10k trail race in 2016 and 2017 (sadly there isn't one this year). It was actually the first race I ever entered having taken up running some 6 months previously. I should really have picked a flat 10k rather than a trail run for my first race as it was pretty tough, however it was also completely fantastic!   The surrounding countryside of Margham Park is stunning and at the highest point of the run you can see all the way to the coast. When I ran it in 2017 a group of deer ran across the course in front of us!   It's a hilly course (as you'd expect from a trail run) and some of the climbs, although not too long, are pretty steep and muddy. In 2016 I had to walk on some of the climbs, but by 2017 I was able to run the whole course which felt great.   The route and marshaling was all great. The turnout in 2017 was a lot less than 2016 (I came 10th and although I was a lot quicker than 2016, I'm no Olympic athlete), which may explain the lack of race this year. This is a great shame as it really is a brilliant race in beautiful surroundings. Hopefully it'll return next year.
