← Cracken Edge Fell Race

This is my second attempt at the Cracken Edge Fell Race and the conditions this year couldn't have been more different to 2017. The heatwave of 2018 made for a firm course underfoot, without any knee-deep field issues!

The course is just over 10k in length and over 400m of climb so it's a category BM race. Organised by the Kinder Mountain Rescue Team the marshalling was top quality with plenty of support and the route was very easy to follow with plenty of flags where there was a path or direction change.

With views over Hayfield and across the valley it was a very scenic route.

It's a good fell race for beginners (there were a good few last night popping their fell cherry!) but make sure you've got some trail shoes as you do need a bit of grip and especially if the course is wet.

At £5 (proceeding going to help fund the KMRT) it's a cheap and memorable evening out.

As with most fell races, the focus is on the run itself. There was orange squash at the end but don't be expecting goody bags, t-shirts and medals!
