← Port Talbot Mixed Relay

Our Tri club, Cr@p Tri picked this as our club champs race ages ago. You had to be quick as there are limited numbers (about 60).

The pre info that was sent out was very organised. On the day, getting to the race was easy and there was free parking and not to far to walk to the start.

Racking was to tight in transition, trying to fit 8 bikes (two teams ) on one section proved to be a struggle trying to get your bike out for the bike leg.

Registration was easy, as a team we all had to be there. Was passed an envelope (one chip, stickers and swim caps for all) and tshirts for all (nice tshirts too !)

The race director advised us all early enough it was optional wet suit.

The race brief was detailed enough. The change over area for team mates was managed by a marshal who kept reminding people what to do and made it work.

I went third (lady, man, lady, man).FYI;  The swim started as a mass start. Going third was great as you saw how everything worked and spoke to team mate one who was buzzing from the race. T

Off I went into the swim. Lots of water marshals out there. A quick 300m swim, set out over two bouys. The swim was a little weedy, I wore a wet suit. Coming out of the water was on a ramp so that was straight forward. Trainsition was cozy, managed to eventually get my bike out. Leaving tranistion, it’s a bit of a run down to the mount line. The first 800m is speed bumps. The remaining of the course was great. Pretty flat on a dual carriageway, an out and back. Marshalls on all junctions. And good signage.

On the way back they could have used one more Marshall on the large round about to come back into the estate, or you would land up in the slip road for the M4.

Back over 800m of speed bumps. De mount and a up the hill (incline). back into tranistion. Racking again, was a struggle.

The run was an out and back on a mix of pavement a little gravel. The Marshall on the turn around point was very encouraging (thank you Marshall).

Running back in was quick and the change over of the chip was organised.

With this layout, it was fanstastic to cheer on your team. At the end we all ran in together. The medals are nice. Water at the finish, and we all got a bacon sandwhich and hot drink.

Being the first relay event, it ran very well. The support from our club was wonderful (a big sea of pink set up by tranistion). The marshalls were wonderful. The weather was good, it was warming up, but the start was earlier enough to avoid the heat wave. The facilities (toilet, change room, shower and cafe was good).

I recomend this race and I would go back to race it again.
