← St Ives 10K

Ok, it is mid-July but this a particularly hot July. So having driven 75 miles from home to the small Cambridgeshire town of St Ives, followed the clear signs for the car park and then a 10 minute stroll to the race HQ, it was 0915 and already 81F.

Picking up the racepack was very easy, inside was my number, two timing chips with twistys, 4 safety pins and a baggage tag. Really well done.

By 1030 as the klaxon sounded we were all very hot, we went down a couple of suburban streets and after around 1KM turned into a single track road and saw the long uphill waiting. By the time we reached RAF Myton people were clearly struggling in the heat. It’s an out and back around the perimeter runway with no breeze or cover.

Exiting the airfield and still some way from the water station it became a case of finishing not PB’ing.

My big complaint is the location of the water, it should really be much nearer to the exit from the airfield.

The start time is hopefully dictated by road closure rules, but they should try for a 0930 start.
