← Edinburgh Marathon Festival (half & full marathon)

First time in Edinburgh and we signed up after have a great time in Bournemouth 2 years ago at an event run by the same organisation.

SATURDAY

All the races were based around holyro park. My wife took part in the 10k, we joked at the start about climbing up Arthur's Seat and on her return she confirmed this is basically what they did! A challenging course but the views apparently were spectacular.

The afternoon consisted of 1.5k,2k and 5k junior races and the whole day had a great atmosphere. My boys both ran and set PB's

SUNDAY

the marathon and half both started in the city centre and the first few miles were great through the city. You the head out to the coast and run to musselbourgh with support space but enthusiastic. If doing the half you turn not long after this and head back to the finish.

Marathoners continue up the coast for around another 6 miles until they turn back to the finish. I found this part of the course dull and tedious not great when the last part of the marathon is generally the toughest.

Support was great at the finish however the logistics I found poor. You finish on a large school playing field. To collect your bags you have to turn left then if you need the loo or want any refreshments you then have to venture all the way to the other side of the field.

You are encouraged to get the bus back to edinburgh £5.50 and 30-40mins. Be warned it's a good 30 min walk uphill and next to the train station which is half the price and only 10mins

The medals for the weekend are all the same design but you get a differing keyring attached dependent on the race you completed. The mara and half medals were quite a lot larger than the Saturday medals which I found quite rewarding!

Would I do it again? Probably not, great if you want a weekend away with the family but as a stand alone mara or half it's nothing special and it clashes with RnR liverpool in 2019.
