On a drunken evening some months ago me and my mate decided it would be a good idea to register for the 20 mile option of this event.

On waking the the next morning we both text each other demanding to know who had hacked our respective phones and done such a thing.

Being only our second organised event both me and my mate (Gimli, son of Gloin) were slightly nervous on race day as you never quite know what to expect from the day. I was so nervous that i would get the registration bit wrong that i forgot we were meant to be doing 20 miles. Not quite sure what i was expecting to get wrong mind.

Anyway, we need'nt have worried , registration was simple and really friendly, Diane showed us what we needed to do and get.

We got chatting to various other runners and Andy the massage man so we were soon feeling very much at home and I even pretented i was a seasoned running veteran to a few folks. They could could blatantly tell i wasnt.

The race course was stunning, great trails and spectacular views and plenty of hills.

I can't thank the marshalls enough for a superb job of watering, feeding and generally getting us round the course on a ridiculously hot day. Massive thanks to you all, you were brilliant.

The finish line was a sight to behold and we were welcomed in like champions. I actually thought i had won the whole event. Alas, i hadnt.

The medals and goody bags were a triumph and although i didnt have any cake (I am watching my figure darling), it looked amazing.

All in all, we had an incredible day, and so did the hundreds (well 10) of our friends and family who came to support.

IGUN is most certainly not grim. Its a lovley warm friendly family of organisers and runners and we will certainly be booking more dates in the diary.
