← St illtyds Trail Race

This was only its second year, but the St. Illtyd's Ultra has aleady doubled in size and popularity. It's a friendly, local race on an out-and-back course (or out-and-back and out-and-back if you choose the 100km) that starts and finishes by the sea in Burry Port.

The route has about 1295m / 4248ft elevation gain with amazing views out to the sea of the Gower peninsula. It's a mix of road and trail and as this year was hot and sunny, most of us did quite well with road shoes. The aid stations were well stocked It's got about

Quite a few people took wrong turns on course (everyone I've spoken to wants to go back next year though). Locals had removed some of the flagging, but the tape that was left was often hard to see. I've fed back to the race organisers that letting the locals know a race was going to be on would help with people taking down flagging, but if you're at all nervous about it bring a route map to be safe.
