← Uventure Junior Run April

This is the second year Ive entered my kids, now 10 and 7, for this race. Its a great introduction to OCR for kids and there were kid sthere younger than mine. The kids race starts well before the adult races and adults can run along with their kids (for an extra £5 fee) so it is very safe for kids. The course is 3.5k long with obstacles ranging from wading through small (but cold) rivers, climbing muddy banks, scrambling under cargo nets, over various frames, and one big slide which my kids love.

Its a great introduction to OCR. The only thing my kids weren't that fond of was the temperature of the river which was pretty cold in April. They do organise a summer run aswell which (subject to the English weather) should be warmer. They also struggled up a large muddy bank, using a rope to climb it. As it was very wet and so many had gone up it already it was very tricky, even for adults and quite a few kids were struggling. There is 1 drink station halfway round offering cups of water and a few jelly babies to keep the kids going.

In terms of organisation, the registration process was very easy, teh course is well marshalled with very supportive marshalls at each obstacle to help and encourage the kids. The PA system at the start line could have been better as it was virtually impossible to hear the race briefing.

I'd definitely recommend this event if you want to get your kids in to OCR and off road running in general. Its a challenging but achievable course that older kids can do quickly and younger kids can still get through with support. Might look to do the summer one next time so the kids dont complain too much about the cold!
