← Cambridge Cambourne 10k

Well what a great 10K run! This was the thrid time I have completed the run and this was tougher than previous years but just as much fun. The run is mainly off road through a nature reserve on the outskirts of Cambourne (about 7 miles out of Cambridge) starting at the Cambourne Science Park (loads of free parking). The course is always damp in places at this time of year but with the wet weather of the past month it was very wet and boggy in places but this just made it more interesting, not quite a tough mudder but it took me as long to clean off the running shoes of the four of us in the family than ran as it did to complete the 10K!

Mud aside what a fantastic event, around 1250 runners (kids fun run available too), plenty of marshalls and local support to cheer you on. The run is off road and although near Cambridge it is not flat, in fact soem people commented that even though it started and finished in the same place )almost) it seemed to be up hill the whole way! In reality there are climbs but not too bad, it is not a PB course but you can post a reasonable time in dryer conditions. My time of 48 mins was 90 secs slower than last year but I suspect this was just down to the mud in a few places.
The route is out and back/circullar so you do cover some of the same terrain and hills in reverse but it is a lovely route around the village of Cambourne. The finish is on the road so you can pick up teh pace for a sprint finish, lots of suppport as you cross the line.

Nice goody bag, medal, drinks bottle, banana, water and granola bar and there are coffee stalls, food stalls and a free massage tent at the finish area.
I would heartily recommend this run, very friendly, challenging but not too bad and fun for all! Definitely a fixture in my running calendar.
