← New York City Marathon

Running the NYC marathon was a bucket list race and one I’ve always wanted to do.

The Expo day before was great and collecting race number was easy. You have to get up very early (it was still dark) to get to NY city library where you get the bus to Staten Island. The queue moves quickly and once on the bus the journey took around 1 hour.  There is a long wait for your start wave so take supplies of buns and muffins! The atmosphere is friendly and anticipatory of the big event. Before you know it you’re at the start line and you’re off. First section is over a bridge so weirdly quiet. This was the same for the other bridges but came as a bit of relief from the very enthusiastic Americans supporting the race - it did get wild at times. Lots of pinch me moments as you run past iconic monuments & buildings in disbelief you’re really here. Plenty of water stations and portaloos on route
