← The Brett Lydd 20 Mile

I haven't done an out and back race for a long time and really enjoyed it.  Running with others meant I could see them on the course which is a big plus.

The event has a simple feel to it, no nonsense, friendly happy atmosphere that seemed to be a great stepping stone for those doing spring marathons.

Numbers and info sent in advance which makes life simpler.

The bag drop team were doing great work - if they'd had a marshal helping with queue management it may have helped a little but this wasn't a massive issue.

Aid stations along the way were straightforward and well manned.  Water in cups with jelly babies at some stations.  The area is not heavily populated and hence there were virtually no spectators so no adoring crowds but I wasn't expecting anything different.

The landscape is flat.  Very flat.  Really flat.  If you don't like flat then don't do the race!  We didn't have much wind but I know the area and when it is windy it really cuts across the marsh!

Finish line was well catered and again a big thumbs up to the Brownies and Scouts for their care of the finishers.  £1 for a cup of tea inside the pavilion was great and car parking within 300/400m.

All in all, a good race.  Although there was chip timing, it felt almost a big 'old school' but in a good way.  The organisers did a good job of putting it on and havign the half marathon at the same time meant there were distances for everyone.
