← Great North West Half Marathon

As a Pacer I can’t comment on the registration aspect as this was done for me, but I still had to collect my race number & pacing T-shirt along with everyone else along the North promenade from 8.30 am onwards (race start time was 11am)
Arrived early at 9.20 and collected without fuss and noticed a lot of toilets close by ✅
Managed to find lots of free street parking within 5 mins walk of the start line without the need to use one of the many NCP car parks close by.

A potentially fast (depending on Wind conditions) and flat course around the coastal front of Blackpool now in its 28th year.
Essentially this consists of 2 small loops followed by 2 larger loops.
Starting 1/2 mile from the North Pier the race heads towards the North pier where you transition from the top service road to the lower coastal path and head back towards the start line, passing below it before you transition back up to the top service road and back through the start area to start your second loop which brings your total mileage up to approx 3.1 miles as you go past the start line again.

Only this time you continue on for 2.5 miles with the first Water station at mile 3.6 (pet hate in plastic cups)

Still on the lower coastal path you head towards Fleetwood and then transition back up a small slope to the top to run back into a headwind with a few undulating rolling hills but nothing too taxing. Another water station at mile 6.5 as we headed back towards the start line before descending again down a gentle slope back onto the lower coastal path to start the last larger loop. Water station again at mile 9 before we made our way up top again for the last 5K back to the finish line.
Last water station came at mile 12 and the last 1/2 mile is ALL downhill so a great boost to end on.

Great to have a very enthusiastic finish line commentator that gave everyone a big boost.
Finish line is alongside the start area and barricaded off so you are then funnelled to get your medal, T-shirt, banana, bottled water and a ‘Fredo’ choccy bar.

Very good value for money race and perfect timing for the Blackpool or London Marathons to test your fitness to asses your race strategy for the marathons.

Speaking to the event organisers they mentioned this was one of the best weather forecasts for a very long time, with average temp 8/9 degrees and the sun out for most of the run.

As ‘Arnie’ once said I’ll be back!!

Hopefully to pace for fcrevents again as my 2️⃣•0️⃣0️⃣ #funbus smashed loads of PB’s today for my hard working group as I came home with a bit to spare

Thanks from Gaz to all who came aboard my 2️⃣•0️⃣0️⃣ #funbus today, I like to think you enjoyed it as much as I did
