← Loftus Poultry Run

This is the second time I have done this race, and I love this event. Fancy dress is encouraged, and embraced by most of the runners.

Numbers are collected on the day, and this was an easy, straightforward process.  This year's race took place on a freezing cold day with rain before the start, and for the first part of the race, so it was good to have the shelter of Loftus Leisure Centre to keep warm.

As we stayed inside until the last possible moment, I can't comment on the pre race briefing.  The route is well marshalled, though the weather deterred spectators for the most part (who can blame them!) There was a water station which you ran past twice.

The course is a mix of road and farmers fields, and is five miles uphill and three miles down to the finish. You see some spectacular sea views and beautiful scenery.

Fancy dress runners get a bottle of wine for their troubles, there are prizes for top three or four in each age cat (geese, Turkey, chicken - hence the Poultry Run name) and all runners get a long sleeved t shirt (though this is just a cotton t shirt not a technical one - I would prefer one that I could wear to run in)

Overall an excellent day out and I would recommend you give it a go.
