← AJ Bell Great South Run

This is always the highlight of my race calenadr as it's my home race so to speak and one of my favourites due to being on the very roads I spend most of my tear training on. The start is pretty well organised into three main start waves to assist in reducing congestion and my wave set off promptly at 1035 although it took almost five minutes to get across the line. The section in the dockyard is possibly my favourite because it's the only time the public have access to that area and you get up close with the huge new aircraft carrier. Despite the staggered starts I once again had to wait until around mile three or four before things got less crowded, after that it was pretty straightforward. The drinks stations are well staffed and thankfully have bottles of water rather than cups which makes a big difference. There was plenty of room at in the finishers area and no queueing of any note after which there were plenty of stalls etc over a large area with stuff to do. The goody bag was very well stocked this year incluiding an improved medal compared to 2014 and 2015 (I missed 2016 due to injury). There's no doubt I'll be back for more next year and I expect it to be just as enjoyable.
