Really enjoyed my first tri of the year. The setting was first class, the amenities at edge hill University were fantastic
400m in a well organised pool swim, quick transition and off around the rolling countryside on partially closed, well marshalled roads. Rack up and a 5k around the University, twisty and technical first half then open fields for the second.
The marshals and team were brilliant.

Great triathlon to try, cycle route is 3 fast loops, run course around the campus is equally flat and fast too.

Issues with some of the marshalling; poor on the bike junction and elements of it being dangerous too due to unclear instructions and seeing a few times cyclists nearly being knocked off their bike as cars came by!
But this won't put me off. I plan on doing it again. I can't do the summer one due to a holiday but I shall do next April.

For my first Triathlon I couldnt really find too much to grumble about at all. The Organisation and Registration was fantastic. The Swim was in a lovely pool (The women leading you into the pool area was a little "shouty" and a bit of a grump). The Bike section was good although the road surface in places was a little rough ( i did see a few people with flat tyres).
My main concern when it came to the bike is that you had to do 3 loops or a course and on your 3rd loop you branch off and head towards transition again. The marshal at the t junction (left to carry on cycling / Right to head towards transition) was directing people the wrong way. I didnt really have a problem as i knew it was a 20k segment and had a bike computer. Other though where directed the wrong way by the marshalls, including my wife.
The Run was very well signposted and was on good terrain although not a full 5k it was a little short. I think it was 2.8mile.
Coming towards the end of the run you head down onto a run track where supporters are cheering you on. At the finish you are given a Tshirt and Medal along with energy gels and water (gels and water also provided on the run section)
It got some great crowds and apart from the marshalling at the bike section it was extremely well organised and supported. I will most certainly be doing again.

A really well organised sprint, they've clearly done it many times before and everything runs very smoothly. The university has great facilities, clean and modern and the transition is laid out well. The cycle course and run course are reasonably flat yet interesting, and it makes up a pretty fast sprint course.
Even the weather was good this week, the only negative I could think of is that the road surface on the bike course is a bit patchy. Nothing unsafe, any one who cycles in England would be accustomed to it. Can't recommend this race enough.

I have done a fair few pool tris in my time and thought it would be hard to beat Chirk which I return to year after year. But this one did it!
We had unusually nice weather for the time of year which contributed to the overall satisfaction with this event . Leaving that aside this was a well organised Tri that ran like clockwork. The bike route was fairly flat with just enough undulation to make it interesting. The run route was one lap of the Edge Hill university campus, finishing on their track. There was an almighty medal and a T shirt, fairly rare in a Tri.
Huge well done to the organisers. I'll be back!
