* Very supportive non competitive runners all cheering each other on.

* Ideal for beginners and fast time as a flat not very busy course along the river Trent.

*Easy to access free car parking at the event.

* Well organised, clear route, friendly participants, great medal.

Points to note

* No longer chip timed - time yourself.

* No warm up at the start - do it yourself.

* No water stations - bring your own.

Overall, a lovely little event for families and runners who don't like big events. Very friendly atmosphere. Great race to start the New Year.

Well organised event. Easy to register and collect race number. Pre race brief was informative. Course really well marked out and easy to navigate. The marshalls are brilliant, plenty about the course. Nice little medal at the end and a decent collection if completing all 3 events.

As the pre race info indicated this is more of a fun run and family inclusive event than a competitive affair which is fair enough (no chip timing). Highly reccommend for first timers. A good route that can be practiced before the event.

My friend has spina bifida so has always been a wheelchair user. He joiner the VR team last year to do a mile event and this was his first ever 2k walk. He'd previously never walked more than a few metres. The team and all the athletes were so supportive of Mark and gave him shout outs all the way round. The turn around cone had been taken down by the time we got there but the marshalls were on the ball and sent us to the correct point so we werent short of distance. This event is such a wonderful one that really does allow anyone of any age or ability to achieve something amazing. For Mark 2k was a huge challenge but we really felt everyone there was right behind him encouraging him every step. I really wish there were more of these 1mile/2k events that people with disabilities could sign up for and get to experince the running community at its best. Thanks VR team, see you in June!!

Have done this race every year it has been on, and it gets better and better every year. My absolute favourite race of the year, and the feel-good factor afterwards is through the roof! The personality of the race organisers shines through, as does the imppacable organisation. A great venue, with an inside area to wait, toilets, tea/coffee/snacks, lots of buzz and chat, and so many runners encouraging each other. As a flat, itneresting and pretty course alongside the Embankment, it lends itself to both more experienced and newer runners. Cannot wait for next year!

This is my second year of doing this race and last years was my first 10K, a great event and brilliant fun to be part of, the route is beautiful, the marshals and volunteers are fantastic and the event has so many happy and smiling faces. Starting at the school and getting my race number was nice, quick and easy, parking was not a problem and the school was even hosting other events too. The organisation of getting runners from the school to the start line may need a little improvement but is mainly down to runners to keep an eye on the time and I was pleased to be there early and near the front for the start of the race. The organisers then brief you on the route and the rules or general things whilst out there enjoying the course. The route takes you away from the school along the tram line to the river trent and over the bridge, which does bounce a little when weight is placed upon it, then along the opposite side of the embankments before looping back upon itself towards the football ground. The way to route loops back is brilliant as I went with a friend and also saw other visor club members so cheering to each other and giving support was brilliant as you could see other runners and help along the way whatever your pace. Past the football ground for a lower leagued team that were once a decent club (lol) and boating clubs, along a footpath and then back on itself for a final 1.5 miles back to the school, overall a very flat and fast course, not a PB for me but 8 minutes quicker than last year so happy with that. Virtual Runner is a brilliant company and organisation for people ethat find it difficult with events, struggle with crowds and overall are getting into running and activities but this live event is for everyone and is brilliant, so much fun and the support from everyone involved was brilliant, 184 people took part in the 10k, there was also a 5k & 2k event which is brilliant as it is something for everyone, would definitely recommend and a brilliant way to work off the Christmas turkey and pudding.
