First race back for me after lockdown, so with a less than confident swim in me the downstream river swim was appealing! Local to me and a lunchtime start meant a relaxed morning and shortish drive with family to the event. Loads of parking on event field. You walk up to the start which was a nice warm up. Swim start was one by one which I liked took the pressure off. Stream was super fast which was fun. River wide and loads of space never felt crowded. Finish is just before the bridge and got pulled out and off on the bike. We were told where to rack. And again seemed to be loads of space in transition.
bike route is great, two laps one nasty junction but well marshalled. Main route roads are good condition couple of climbs but nothing too steep.
run route is two laps, has one main climb but then downhill. Mix of road farm track and grass.
great event in aid of local hospice. Really friendly Marshalls really supportive. Town is really close across bridge so family kept nipping into town for ice creams and found an interesting local musesum and back again whilst I was racing.

Another year, and another brilliant Upton Tri. It's just the perfect event for anyone looking for a relaxed, family-friendly, local Triathlon. Great course, loads of friendly marshals, an afternoon start time that means you don't have to get up at the crack of dawn to race, fast swim in the river, and great bike and run course. If you get a chance, do it.

Really great community organised triathlon.
Super marshals across the course, simple registation process, and big venue on Fish Meadow in Upton means that parking is easy.
Triathlon starts in the early afternoon which means no early starts, and it's much more fun for spectators - who have lots of places to view you as you come in and out of transition.
Swim is in the River Severn which is unique, and with the current pushing you along you can get a great time, ride is across local roads, but does include a couple of major junctions, which are really well marshalled, run is around local farm tracks and then down by the river.
Would really recommend....
