Wish the race had an actual chip time and not just gun time. Especially with trying to start people in waves. Also, the finish line area was way too cramped/small. I got bottle necked stuck behind walkers and had to stop running and wait behind people so I could actually cross t...

Wish the race had an actual chip time and not just gun time. Especially with trying to start people in waves. Also, the finish line area was way too cramped/small. I got bottle necked stuck behind walkers and had to stop running and wait behind people so I could actually cross the finish line. After race treats were yummy and setting up in the parking lot this year was a much better solution than the previous year especially with the weather.

The event start could have been better organized with regard to ensuring that walkers were lined up behind the runners. This caused some unsafe conditions for the first half mile as the walkers were walking shoulder to shoulder and you had to run into the grass to go around them....

This caused some unsafe conditions for the first half mile as the walkers were walking shoulder to shoulder and you had to run into the grass to go around them. Maybe this was attempted, as the pre-race instructions said it would start in three waves, but that didn’t happen. Also, we could not hear any announcements at the starting area (volume was too low), so if you tried to direct people that way, they never would have been able to hear you.

We totally agree that the start was congested. I had intended to start in waves but it simply slipped my mind in the moment. Won't happen again. We're also working on an upgraded sound system. We'll be ready next year.

Agreed on both counts. Becky always does an amazing job getting treats. We had a tech issue at the beginning of packet pick up that put us behind. We've already fixed the problem for the next time. :-)

The pre-race emails said the start would be in three waves, but that didn't happen. It was extremely congested at the start & even still about a half mile in. I run Hinckley often & knew 800 people would be tight on that path, but I think staggering the start would have helped & ...

The pre-race emails said the start would be in three waves, but that didn't happen. It was extremely congested at the start & even still about a half mile in. I run Hinckley often & knew 800 people would be tight on that path, but I think staggering the start would have helped & trying to get the walkers to be after the runners would help. It was way too muddy at the start/finish area, but I know you can't control that & the lake construction forcing you to change areas. The food & refreshments at the finish were amazing! I've never been to a race with that much stuff & variety.

We apologize for the start snafu. I had intended to start in waves but got caught up with some other issues that morning and simply forgot. We're planning to start in waves next year and probably on the road but we need to clear that with the rangers and the timer, which shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for your feedback and support.

I was really disappointed about the start of the race. I wish there would have been staggered starts. There should have been a start for the fast runners and then separate starts for all of the other runners depending on their ability/expected pace. Finally, the walkers should have started last - especially the ones who were walking with dogs - what a mess and so frustrating trying to navigate walkers, dogs, and dog leashes. Why couldn't we start on the road as in the past and then funneled onto the path as the group naturally thinned?

We agree that the start was a problem in the new venue and we're already working on plans to change it up next year. We will start in waves like we did last year and will work out the logistics (with the park and timing company) for starting on the road. Thanks for your feedback
