Really enjoyable flat (literally as a pancake) course consistong of three (different) out and backs. Most of the course is on Lancasters beautiful cycle paths, there are no road closures as you essentially only one on one street with a road, which has a nice wide path. 8 aid stations (including jelly sweets) great race photography (which for once is free also) very cheap, it was only 20 something quid. Cracking very chunky medal and a neon yellow finisher long sleeved shirt. Free massages in the gym afterwards really helped my tired legs! A perfect spring marathon prep race I would absolutely do again.

A superb north west England 20 mile marathon prep race, based in Lancaster & the river Lume. Health club was perfect race base.

I did this race in preparation for the Manchester marathon and it was very nice indeed. Everything for a small race was very well organised, the route was clearly marked, marshallers at every turn there was just nothing to fault. Running along the river in the picturesque city of Lancaster you first head into the city always following the river before eventually heading back and running past the start before you start the slow upward climb for 5k before returning to the start. Plenty of water stations with jelly babies for all. At the end there's a great medal, a nice t-shirt, with fruit and a wagon wheel.

It’s an enjoyable race, which is prefect distance and date to aid training for a spring marathon.
There’s some nice river views, and the castle finish is particularly special!

Great race for marathon training. Found this quite a tough race however I loved the scenery and the nature on the race. Last bit is difficult running up the hill towards the castle.

It’s not “flat and easy” but it’s not hilly either. I would say it’s a great balance.
There’s a great running community feel at the start and a fantastic castle finish!
Despite poor weather I still enjoyed this race.
