This was my ninth tough mudder and first time completing the Yorkshire course. Signs for those driving to the race was as always welcome as you got nearer to the location as parking can often be hard to find. Registration was easy as ever and mudder village was easy to navigate, getting signed in and using bag drop took no time at all. Plenty of toilets both before and during the race though much more muddy later on in the day. Warm up was fun and lively and are start wave set off pretty much bang on time.
Enjoyed the course - plenty of mud thanks to all the rain and loved the obstacles both old and new. A little disappointed with the aid stations this year that there was only flapjacks at one of the stations and lucozade also only at one, water the rest of the way round. Previous years snacks and both water and lucozade were available at all stations. The lack of photographers on the course was a shame as well.
Signage is plentiful and clear so no chance of going wrong and the marshals are all very helpful and always friendly. I would very much recommend Tough Mudders for anyone looking for a challenge and a great day out!

Won tickets for Tough Mudder last year through twitter competition so was looking forward to this event for months. Arranged to meet up with a couple of other mates so we could all run together and have a laugh along the way
Arrived nice and early in Yorkshire to torrential rain so jumping in and out of mud was gonna be fun!! Off to the warm up and the starter was great, getting everyone up and dancing to the music before we set off for 10miles of hills and mud.
Best obstacles were Mud Mile and Block Ness Monster, both involved plenty of mud/water either head first into it or sliding into it. The DJ at Mud Mile was great getting everyone involved with his dance moves

Day two - 10:45 wave course was busy and extremely muddy.
I didn’t like having to queue at obstacles having gone straight through on an earlier wave the day before.
Some of the obstacles were quite slippy due to the wet. In addition to this, the change of materials used to build Everest meant that slipping down would create some epic stripey horrifically grazed knees rather than the old nice slide back down again.
MEGA Positive was MC Ben at Mud Mile who just MADE it the most entertaining experience I’ve had than any other Mudder. What a legend.
Negatives: (same as before)
-lack of bib
-generic headband
-no mini mudder
Still a good laugh, will do it again but I think I prefer the earlier waves.

This year I joined the “tougher” wave, personal fabric bib, black and yellow headband and extra bragging rights. Timed and all obstacles to be completed or DQ. Quite a nice treat for an extra 15 squid.
Being renowned as the “toughest” UK tough mudder, lots of changes have taken place over the last four years making this venue a little more for the mainstream have a go hero.
10.5 miles of well marked difficult hill running, 23 (?) obstacles along the way. This has dropped from the 12 odd a few years back which took you over the top of the moor and back down again.
Changes this year to the layout, with blue route for the half runners and an additional orange for the full runners, volunteers making sure no mistakes were made along the route.
It can be an expensive affair for a pretty packed out course of people, recommend getting an “early bird” for £45, but defo worth getting involved in as a team.
Negative points from the experience:
- no longer have bibs. Not sure how this works for finding race photos?
- generic tough mudder full headband rather than year marked headbands
- loss of “king of the swingers” obstacle, which was a firm fave
- no longer putting on “mini mudder” which is potentially due to not making much cash. Some things are not about cash and involving the kids was one of those things
