Great local race, really interesting course, but not flat as advertised...a few hills to climb.
The event village could have had a lot more stalls and the start could have been more organised.
Lots of Marshall's on route and plenty of water stations,a few more port a loos would be great.
The goodies at the end were really good, lots of yummy things to eat 😃
Over all a fab race that I will definitely do again next year.

Some runners have dubbed the Thorpe and Egham Half Marathon the M25 Half as you cross the motorway a few times during the 13.1miles.
You will also run through some winding countryside and up one hill but all on closed roads so no danger of the jams you would normally encounter on the road to hell.
It’s not the most scenic of routes but the fact the roads are closed and wide means plenty of room to operate – even where there’s an out and back section split by cones.
What this race does offer is excellent organisation and an enjoyable session. Plenty of pre-race info via email and their FB page (even if their Twitter account does appear to get neglected) plus a comprehensive guide sheet that arrives with your number and chip (which you can also collect on the day, subject to places being available).
Overnight rain did make a rather muddy welcome to the cricket pitch HQ but you can’t fault the organisers for that!
They had sorted hot food and drink for arrivals, a rock choir for entertainment, a decent bag drop and a taping off into sections system which made the Portaloos just that bit easier to queue for.
There were plenty of instructions for arriving by train and car – and even a park and ride on a provided bus shuttle service.
A civilised start (the half going 30 minutes before the 10k) and plenty of marshals ensuring traffic did not come onto the closed roads – it’s a shame about the cyclists who leeched onto the fact that runners had paid for the roads to be closed! Shame on you!
The mileage signs were out a little bit in places but the course did come up to exact length – something some organisers don’t always get right.
A nice shirt, stonking big themed medal (Magna Carta which was signed nearby) and plenty of drinks and snacks to leave your hands and arms full as you left the finishing chute.
You can see this race growing from strength to strength. I'd book early for next year....

Event was great, well organised and good value for money. I'm quite new to this so a bit of nerves on the day, all nerves blown away by an amazing pair that helped me achieve a PB with out even trying to much. I don't know your names but the 1.50 pace makers you were great thank you again.

Great race , medal and goodby bag. Only downer was having to wait for the shuttle bus which took ages. Only 2 buses and 1300 runners?!

I've done the Half before when it was based at Thorpe Park and have found the closed road event very enjoyable. A great chance to run that distance locally and without any congestion along the route. My only quibble there has ever been had been regarding the toilet queues. So can I commend the organisers this time on the superb ratio of toilets to runners. Very little queuing (unlike Thorpe 2017, and especially 2018 where I think I encountered the longest queue I've ever had).
Apart from a little mud, I thought the event village was well laid out and I did like the choir. As we arrived early, I parked in Egham and walked up so I can't comment on the park and ride option offered by the organisers.
This time I only did the 10k but enjoyed the familiar closed roads. I thought there were enough marshals and water stations, and enjoyed the entertainment as we went. However, given the number and frequency of water stations, I do think that this is an ideal event to do away with plastic bottles. Maybe embrace reusable/compostable cups in the future.

This was my 33rd half marathon since April 2018 and the first time doing this event. If you are using public transport eg trains than the start tine of 9am is not practical since there is always a reduced service on a Sunday. I came for Basingstoke and only got to the event due to a lift, otherwise i would have needed to stay locally the night before. The site of the event village on a grassed area in winter is not a sensible idea especially when it was very muddy. The venue would be ideal for summer but not winter. The event was well marshalled with adequate water stops. Crowd support as expected was minimal. I really love the events where there is very good support since it adds to the experience. I was very impressed with the medal and goody bag and overall enjoyed the event with the only negatives being start time, event village location and crowd suppprt.
