This was my first trail race. It was a bit of a baptism of fire steep muddy and dark! Will def be back for more. The whole event had a great friendly vibe.

Thanks Carl - a baptism of mud more like! Soooo muddy - the worst I’ve seen in 10 years! Sorry to hear the pizza truck had run out when you finished…i think as they were there all day they under estimated the amount of hungry runners!!

In hindsight, this has been by far the most challenging Exposure Lights event I did with Maverick Races in the last couple of years. Losing my way on the track, having to climb up at what felt like a vertical slope to find my way back, the ankle high mud and the waterlogged pathways after the aid station - all got the better of me this time, and I hate to admit that I was very close to giving up. I am pleased that I didn’t, that I had whatever it is I had in me to push through this one. This is certainly one remember. There’s one observation I’d like to make, it is that having the last section of the route going through the parking lot - meant that for those of us who weren’t the first to finish the race - we had to breathe in the petrol and diesel fumes of the running engines of the racers that had finished by then, that was quite unpleasant on already oxygen deprived lungs, maybe something for Maverick Race team to think about for the next time they are plotting the West Sussex route.

Hi Andrei - the conditions were certainly a challenge at the weekend with all the rain on Friday…..the wettest I’ve seen there for sure! Unfortunately that is the only safe way to bring you back into the finish as the only other alternative involved the busy road we close at the race start, which we cannot close for the finish. We also can’t park anywhere else as that’s the parking for the venue which is a real shame - but agree it’s not perfect.

Hey James - well done to you and your daughter…that’s an amazing result in some challenging conditions! If you want an ever wetter route it would have to be the middle next year! Thanks again and glad you guys had fun.

I did a 7k short route. It was my first dark trail running race. Some part was very muddy and challenging but the course was good and felt good at the end I finished it.

Hey Piyanut - well done on your first dark trail race, I hope you had fun?! The conditions were indeed challenging and the wettest we’ve seen in that location in the last 10 years.

Also, the water station was minutes before the end. It Wasn't worth stopping at now. I needed it a few miles back. Though I suppose it was hard to place it in the woods on the long route

Thanks for taking the time to feedback Paul! Sorry to hear your lost your cup….we are trying to be strict this year with regards to providing cups, but please always ask in this scenario as we do carry them. Outposts are a challenge for us and as you say location is very much dictated by access. Thanks once again and hope to see you soon.

We’ve done this 3 or 4 times now. This time we had some people running the daytime race and others running the nighttime race. Everyone loved it! It’s such a challenging race! The hills in the first 4 or 5 km are immense! The ‘bog of doom’ was really difficult for the evening runners but the tales from that were also the best bits! So well organised! The coffees, hot chocolate & wood fired pizza at the event village were all awesome. The only things I can suggest to improve it are to maybe have more things for spectators to do during the race and maybe a bar of something healthy to eat at the end!

Hey Lynn - thanks so much for your continued support! Love this idea as we’re always looking to elevate the runner experience especially on the longer days like the Ultras and double days.

Such a great I will look forwards to having another go next year. Only part that was frustrating was the bottleneck up the first hill track when you go through the gate.... maybe a staggered start could elevate this.

Thanks so much for taking the time to feedback Abigail….totally get the suggestion of a staggered start! It’s the biggest we’ve been at that location so some learnings for us. Thanks once again!
