Lovely course, nice country lanes and well placed marshalls.  A little expensive for what it was but the medal was ok and the staff and atmosphere was very friendly.

There was tea and cake avilable in the sports hall at the end which is always very appreciated :-)

There are a lot of good things about this event, and a few things that could do with tweaking!

First, the good stuff:  Friendly, small, local feel.  Mixed ability of runners. Registration was easy on the day.  The route is lovely (I did the 10k, not so sure I'd fancy repeating the same lap for the 20k but that's just me).  Couple of nice hills and all country lanes.  There weren't many marshalls on the route itself but they were where they needed to be. There is a good atmosphere on route, and back at the sports hall after the finish.  Tea and cake in the hall was much appreciated! Parking was easy once into the college grounds.

Things to improve:  A Marshall or two to direct parking cars would help - people were not parking very conscientiously, and more cars could have been fitted in quite easily. Perhaps a couple more marshalls along the long stretches of straight road might be helpful for traffic too.

The race is not cheap, particularly given it is not chip timed, and given the quality of the medal which is the only cheap thing about this race!  I'm not sure where all the proceeds from the race goes, but you don't actually get anything for your money.

Finally, it could do with better organisation at the finish line.  There was one lady marshalling who unfortunately was too quiet for runners to hear, so there was some confusion about which lane to get in for the 10k finish or the second lap of the 20k. People were also walking in front of the car where the race timers were sat, obscuring their view of the finishers,  and no one was moving them out the way.

This said, love the route. Enjoyed the race. Will do again but maybe in a year or two.

I enjoyed the scenery and the run however it was very expensive for a non chip timed, non officially affiliated race with only a medal, banana and brunch bar at the finish.

Would I run it again? Probably not.

A decent bunch of us decided to rock up to Warwickshire College to take on either the 10k or 20k road races put on by Raceways Events. Because it was a fairly small event (not sure of the exact numbers, results are due out today) it was a really lovely atmosphere, before, during and after the event.

Parking and registration were a doddle (they were a couple short on the registration desk, so two of my club-mates were able to step in and help out with that in return for a free race!). Expecting registration to take longer we then had plenty of time to kill before the races started. a few were doing the 20k, which was a two lap course (slightly harsh having to run RIGHT past the finish line to go out and do another lap!) mainly as part of marathon training, and the rest of us took on the 10k. The 20k started just up the road a couple of minutes before the 10k. All went off bang on time and very smoothly.

There was a bit of a bottleneck at the start (my fault really for being in the wrong place) followed by about a km of downhill to get your legs moving. We soon started catching up with the 20k runners, but there was amply space, even on non-closed roads they weren't bad roads, and there weren't many cars. The marshals were great and very encouraging all the way round.

The middle of the race saw a slight incline. I'd just passed a friend doing the 20k and he shouted "The hill is coming up". Was a bit concerned because my pace was good and I didn't want it to slow, but really the hill wasn't much to shout about! Sadly the same can't be said for the last km back up the hill we started down! That was an absolute killer, and I suspect had it not been for it I may have bagged a tiny PB! Anyway, it wasn't to be. I finished pretty well though in about 38:30 (still waiting for the official results) and I think somewhere in the top 10. It was a lovely route, well marshalled and supported by a drinks station half way and another at 10k for the 20k runners.

When we finished we were handed a little medal, and there were some nice energy bars, drinks, fruit and horrible little bottles of beetroot juice! Urgh! I mean, why?!!!! :-) Inside the registration area were tea's and coffee's on sale for a small donation. Oh, did I mention that all the profits go to charity. They're supporting the Kids Run Free charity. Fantastic idea, and worth it all for that.

The one thing I'd say, if any vague criticism is to be made, is that it's not particularly cheap. £20 (affiliated) for the 10k and £22 (affiliated) for the 20k. I might expect a technical finishers tee for that kind of money. But that's a very minor gripe really.

Again, post race was nice and quiet and friendly. We watched and waited for the other 10k finishers and then the 20k finishers to come in whilst nattering about the race. There was a lovely area next to the finish to do just that. Then we all went back to the cars and headed off! No drama, no hassle, all very lovely! Will do it again (and they have the same races just before Christmas called the Christmas Cracker, so I'll probably do that as well!)

First timer at Moreton Morell. It's quite a quick course comprised of 2 laps around the countryside. The last KM is a bit of a slog due to the incline but generally a nice friendly race with about 250 runners.
