this was my first New Year’s Day 10km at lamberhurst I’ve done a fair few of niceworks races it’s a good event if you like a hilly event and a challenge it was well marshalled and easy to get to the course isn’t the most scenic of routes and I found it a one of my most toughest 10km but if your looking for a challenge after the festive period this is one to do the medal was awesome and the price was great

I first did this race in 2017 and decided to return on New Years Day 2018 after only entering late the day before. The event is a combined 5k (1 lap) and 10k (2 laps) race held in the lovely village of Lamberhurst. Registration and number collection all very easy in the village hall directly next to the start and finish area. Parking is available in the roads around the event but you may have a bit of a walk to the start so give yourself time.
The bag drop wasn’t really organised, just leave your stuff in the village hall so wouldn’t advise taking too many valuables with you.
Before the start I met up with the brilliant Lee Kemp and had a quick catch up with him and got to meet his Dad who supports him so well at lots of his races. We were both rocking our #ukrunchat vests and our #racecheck visors (one of each colour for the website Kat!)
The race started and the weather really was pretty awful, strong wind and rain with the ground being very slick under foot. I ran a large part of the race with Lee chatting as we went which was fun. The route itself is pretty tough, you are either running up hill or down with very little flat parts, it takes you into the grounds and around Scotney Castle each lap with is interesting. For a run on New Years Day the turn out was good and nice to see some familiar faces along the out and back parts of the route.
I finished feeling strong in a time of 48.27 which I was pleased with considering the conditions and similar to 2017 time of 48.22. Everyone received a nice champagne bottle medal and then it was straight to bag drop to dry off and warm up. Mince pies and hot drinks were available which was appreciated.
Overall I enjoyed this event, well organised and a testing course close to home which is a lovely way to start a busy year of running ahead. I’ve no doubt I will run this event again.
