I was a little disappointed this year (2018). The race was a little late starting due to the toilets being broken in the main building so huge cues for the porta loos. Once the race started I remembered it being as great a route that I remembered from the year before but as I got to the mile 4 water station, they had temporarily ran out of water! This water mind you is in those big water butt carriers so I remember it not tasting so great the year before anyway. Unfortunately, this played on my mind that I hadn't had a drink and that there wasn't another until about mile 8, so I walked ran the rest and nipped into a shop on route also to grab a drink! I know this is my own issue and that I wasn't mentally strong enough to cope with that set back but you'd hope they wouldn't run out of water. Ruined the race for me unfortunately.

The whole registering and organisation of the event was well managed, I don't have any complaints. I expected the race to be hilly but I didn't realise how hilly it would be, I should have been better prepared, it starts on Stockport Harriers running track and heads out onto a mixture of surfaces, begining on roads which lead to a housing estate then onto country lanes. There are two water stations at miles 4 and 8, this is given out in cups which I find hard to drink from whilst running. The course finishes at the running track where we completed a lap. The goody bag was good, medal, flapjack, water, choice of men's or women's t shirt and a pair of running socks, this race isn't expensive and puts other races that charge more to shame.

This race is very local and every year we have stood outside our house and cheered the runners on 🎅🎅🎅 so thought would give it a try. Registration was simple, race information and bibs were received in good time. The clubhouse was open so we could keep warm and the bag drop was easy to use. The run started on the track and out into the park, followed by running part on the pavement, part of the road. It is advertised as a non closed road run so it was expected, whilst on the road everyone took care and there was no overtaking in dangerous situations. The race is flat and downhill until about the 3.5 mile mark then the hills commence, the race went around a very lumpy housing estate and once out of there it continued down a country lane, this was downhill and the scenery was gorgeous. Water stations at mile 4 and mile 8, it was in cups so ended up over my face rather than my mouth. Once out of the country lane another flat section until about mile 9 then another long, uphill section - this was hard on tired legs. Back into the park and headed back to the running track and nearly a lap to the finish. Medals were handed to you and a bottle of water which was greatly appreciated. There was a choice of both male and female t-shirts in a range of sizes, you could just help yourself. There was also a goody bag containing a flapjack, notepad, keyring, flyers - fantastic. As an extra there were free running socks 👍👍 The marshalls were fantastic, local support was great. This is by far my hardest earnt medal and what a lovely medal it is too. Immediately after I was not running this race again, however about 10 minutes later I am in 😂😂😂 Fantastic event and now I know what to expect you can count me in for 2019 👍👍👍

This race is local to me but I've only done it once before back in 2014 so I thought it was time for a return visit. All communication is excellent from the organisers and your number is posted out to you if you enter early enough Met up with fellow #teamwhite runners before the race to say hello. The start is on Stockport Harriers athletic track. You are then led out on to the course that is part road and part trail. The roads aren't closed so you have to keep this in mind. There are plenty of marshals around the course offering support and guidance of where to go as well as plenty of signs. You get a nice medal at the end, T-Shirt, socks and a flapjack. For the low price this is very organised and I'll be going again next year.

I was a little bit let down with this race unfortunately... Easy to sign up to and plenty of emails keeping me up to date with everything. The route started in the Woodbank Park which was lovely and then leads you out into the housing estates of Stockport. You do go through some lovely, scenic areas then back through the housing estates and finishing on the running track in Woodbank Park. It is definitely a challenging course and I would not recommend it for anyone not use to running up and down some pretty long and steep inclines. I was disappointed for a couple of reasons. The first one being, I was hardly running with people at the back of the pack but still the first water station at 4 miles had run out of water. Not impressed with this at all. This is something very important during a 10 mile race and to run out of water at a water station is unacceptable. The next water station was at 8 miles and we ended up running into a nearby shop to purchase a drink. Secondly, I really did not feel safe for the majority of the route as it was open roads where cars are travelling at 60mph, I very nearly got clipped a couple of times. Thirdly, there were signs showing which way to go for most of the route but we did come across plenty of sections during the housing estate part where there were no marshalls, no signs and multiple different routes, we very nearly got lost a couple of times. The medal, t-shirt, free running socks and goodie bag at the end were great! It's a lovely medal. Not 100% sure that I will be going back though.

First time I've taken part. From my point of view, the race was well organized with Marshalls doing a fantastic job of both keeping the runners safe and where possible, the traffic flowing. Course is a mix of road and off road, with a little bit of track as the start and end. Course we'll marked. Only downside was it's cups of water, always difficult to drink while running. But only negative, made up for by a great race, with a huge goody bag. Just don't mention the hills!!

This was my first time taking part in this race after having heard such good things about it. I have ran a lot of the route before as part of my regular run route, so I knew what to expect, or so I thought. The one bit I hadn't run before was an undulating section through I housing estate. It wasn't difficult itself, but when I presumed it was glad it was a bit of a surprise. I enjoyed the route and it certainly was a challenge. It was the first open road race I've done, it was well done, but would rather not do it on a regular basis. My only negative would be the water stations. The water was in small plastic cups that, when you are running as fast as possible, make it pretty much impossible to drink from. There were loads of marshalls on the route who were all very encouraging and the route was clearly sign posted too. There was a race briefing at the start, but I couldn't hear a word of it sadly. Maybe a tannoy/megaphone would be better in the future? The sign up process, bag drop and general organisation were fantastic and the Stockport Harriers' base of Woodbanbk Park made a good start and finish point. The medal is great and for the price the goody bags were brilliant. I will be back next year for sure

what a fantastic race - Great middle distance for people wanting to make the leap to HM from 10k! The 2 hills were as tough as I’d heard people saying - mile 5 and 8. Especially mile 8 it just seemed to go on and on! 

Finishing up on the track was a particular favourite of mine especially as I’d never actually ran on one (a race track yes, but never an actual athletics track) 

 

water stations were were a little poor - cups of water from plastic containers that made the water taste funny but I believe the organiser have already taken this on board for 2018 race already.
