A lovely little low -key race, suitable for fast runners looking for a tempo runout, and beginners looking to complete the distance. Very easy venue to find, with excellent, easy parking, lots of toilets, and an easy and straightforward number pickup. The course is very straightforward and consists of 1 lap for the 5k. The first mile is on very quiet, undulating road (overall downhill), before a sharp left downhill turn onto the old railway path, which is stony and gravelly, for another mile. There is then a left turn onto a concrete road which rises gently up in front of you, before kicking up for a short hill at approximately two and a half miles. It then turns left onto the main road footpath for a short distance, before turning left again with about 200m to the finish. I would say this is not a course for a PB, nor is it a difficult course. It has a bit of everything, which makes it a pleasant run. There are prizes for the first Open and Female runner in each race of the 4 race series, and for the first 3 overall in each category at the end of the series. (3 of 4 races to count)
This is such a well organised race that I am always very sad to see that it is very poorly attended by local clubs - maybe the publicity for the event needs to be improved. The only thing I can think of from an organisational point of view could be a mat for the start timing, but this is not really necessary when the race is so small; and perhaps mile or Km markers, but then again, the nature of the course helps with knowing the distance.
