Spetsathlon is just spetsathlon! For 6th year in a row was very well organized with 30% newbies triathletes (and this is very important for the sport) in the beautiful island of Spetses with extra swim, Sup and bike races on Saturday,. On Sunday two different distance triathlons  sprint and endurance with high  demanding bike 

Once again it was a great weekend ,amazing volunteers and  atmosphere  huge safety in the triathlon swimming leg and swimming races with a great team of lifeguards in the sea.

Magic bike route, one of the best routes ever ridden! Amazing landscapes, interesting u-turns, breathcatching uphills and downhills! 

The race is a bit glamorous and the main amount of participants is in the sprint distance, which makes the endurance race a more lonely race. As I am not a fast swimmer and the bike race is 2 whole island rounds, you don't see many bikers during the race! I am not sure if this is a good or a bad thing, just saying!  

Negatives: After all these years of organising races in the beautiful island of Spetses, and all these money raised (it is not a cheap race neither Spetsathlon nor the Spetses Mini Marathon) they should at least fix the asphalt before and after the village. Apart from the fact you cannot ride in max speed as you are trying to avoid holes, there is a great danger for the rider as well. Riding the first and the last 2 kms to and from the village is a great risk for the rider and the bicycle. And of course, fixing the road, is something that the villagers will apreciate too!

Conclusion: It is a race you should try at least once! But considerating facts like the journey cost (you need about 250-300 euros per person for a weekend, the fact that I 've been there already 3 times, and the fact that other races seem to offer more (memorabiglia, gifts, racepacks etc) it is not likely I am coming back in 2017! Maybe in 2018 or something! Farewell and train hard!

Expensive race combined with the points below

Website stated technical t-shirt given with registration but they handed out cotton ones. When asked about it they said it shouldn't have been on the website. It was there for 6 months. I'm guessing they decided to replace it and hope that nooene notices. It felt really cheap on their part espacially on such an expensive and "high class" race.  

The race medal is a disgrace, looks like something you'd be given in a school race. The same race (Spetses Mini Marathon) gives out these beautiful custom ones come October but for the triathlon they just give crappy ones. Cheap. 

Very expensive photos which are divided into two days so if you took part in one of the Saturday races, you have to pay extra if you want photos from the whole weekend. 

The "water start" from last year was replaced with a beach start this year which was really dangerous. The beach is tiny and the shallow end is filled with big sharp rocks which you have to navigate while the pack is pushing from behind. I still can't believ that noone got hurt. 

Spetsathlon is my favorite race.The natural beauty is unique.The ambiance that the people create is just magnificent.Everyone want to keep racing and racing and racing...elite and amateur.Everyone finishes with a smile.The best race at Greece and one of the best at Balkan.Thank you Spetsathlon for all these great moments!!
