I returned to the K2 Sports evening triathlon series for the August event. This was run in a slightly different way with seeded start times. The start times were based on your previous results with the slower times going off first. The start times were around 30 seconds apart with one to three going off at a time.
This was a fairly unique addition for an open water event and really added something. It made the swim start a lot less busy. Sighting was a lot more inportant as there weren't as many people around you to help navigate.
Out on the bike I'd recommend a back light for the August event as the evening drew in a little quicker than expected. The course is well marshalled with decent signage on the three laps.
Out on the run the two lap course is around a quiet country lane and fast enough.
As part of the end of the season event there was also a free barbeque put on by the local scout group. This was a really nice touch and very kind of the local scouts. Kudos goes to the vegetarian option. The vege sausages were really great and very welcome after burning up the calories beforehand!
Another great midweek event from K2 Sports. This really is a great series of races to add some extra triathlons to your season or if you usually work weekends.

As the title suggest, this is the second time I've raced this event this year, the first being 4 weeks prior. It is such a lovely little race I couldn't not come back.
After registration, I went to the car and to use the change facilities - coming straight from work in Bristol meant I didn't have time to change but that's not a problem, the facilities at the quarry are more than adequate (and the portaloos are clean!).
Transition is plenty, this race is getting popular - which is always nice to see but its not cramped in transition despite now getting near to 100 participants. It is Brit Tri/England Tri officiated and these guys are lovely and supportive - cheering you on.
This final event was a handicap start based on previous times, I was 8th off which was nice. Quite liked almost having the quarry to myself with those who are super speedy watching on. The water wasn't too cold, despite having lots of rain before. The quarry is clean and clear, which makes for a lovely swim. It is matted out of the swim into transition becuase it is rocky. Worth bringing flip flops to leave at the side before the race - they'll be safe and no one steals them (you never know they may have a flipflop fetish!).
After transition you head out on the 3 lap bike course, straight onto a climb nothing overly steep but I'm not the best on hills or lumps however, to counteract those ups, there are a couple of nice downs and flats. Great marshalling and support here.
Back into transition and its a down hill run with the bike - fun in cleats, this is where my years of running in heels has paid off.
The run route, as you go out to tackle the two lap course, there are some marshals with water should you want it. Then its the short, sharp hill (which you do twice) I found the photographer on the hill rather bizarre. She was taking photos very close to your face and the flash would go off just as you go past but it would be still leaving a little white flash dot in your eye. No idea why the need to be so close.
Finish funnel there's water and haribo.
As this is the last in the series, the local Scout group offer up a nice BBQ for competitors at the finish. It is free but do ask for donations.
Great race, see you next year!

This is the second time I have raced this tri this summer. Signed up online. This was a handicap race and I was the first to start.
Working in Bristol this was easy to get too. Lots of parking. Registration was easy. The marshals are friendly. Not a big race. Small transition area to suit. Provide you with a swim cap, race number and timing chip.
550m distance. Swimming in the quary is fine. Not too cold. Well marshalled. Exiting and entering - watch out for the rocks. Ps- bring flip flops for pre race as it's rocky by the water. There are mats down to run on.
18km bike. Three laps. Well signed posted and marshalled. Some hills in it but some fast flats too.
4km on tarmac. Two loops. There is a hill. But the plus point is you get to run down it and when you finish your 2nd lap. That down hill gives you a nice push as the finish line is not to far away.
Water and hairibo at the finish. Photographers on the course. The photographer on the run course was getting a bit too close to the runners to take face photos. That would be my only negative about the race.
These races are good for all abilities. There is such a mix of bikes in transition. I would recommend it. I think if you sign up for all 4 you get a discount. And if you buy individually it's about £32-37 depending if you have a race licence.
I will deffinatley keep a look out for next years races with K2 sport South Glos triathlon. Good finish for these organisers and they put on a free BBQ by the Scouts with a donation pot, a great end to the night .
