This is a lovely race with a lovely medal (though I was sad this year that they appear to have removed the beer from the goody bag). 

There is plenty of parking but the road to and from the start area is narrow in places and it can get congested at peak arrival and leaving times.  The start area has plenty of room for collecting your race bib, a cafe and toilets (be prepared to queue, they aren't very big!)

It is an off road run on good quality trail (and a very short road section) in the grounds of Bolton Abbey - starting with a trot through the wooded section along the bank of the River Wharfe, across a bridge and then through a few fields (with the only significant uphill bit) before descending along a road and back through the woods to the end.  The last 1.5km or so are a nice fast finish.

One of the best tips I can give anyone participating in this run is *BRING LOTS OF MOSQUITO REPELLANT* - the air is thick with midges, particularly around the finish area and I got bitten all over in 2018.  They are persistent too, as I still got a few bad bites despite the repellant in 2019.  

For anyone who has visited Bolton Abbey near Skipton in North Yorkshire, will know how beautiful it is...! The event was organised by Sue Ryder and was a 5 mile trail route through woodland trails, along the river and through open fields. Entry to the race included car parking which usually costs £10. You needed to print a parking pass which was in the pre race email, and this could be used during the day - so a day out at Bolton Abbey could also be factored in.   

Prior to the start, the atmosphere was great with a coffee truck, a pop up bar, music playing - and the sun was shining. The weather could not have been better for a Summer Solstice race!

The route was quite challenging in places but ended with a gentle downhill to the finish, where you were handed a running buff and a stunning medal. 

This event was in it's third year and sold out again. It well worth entering, and so long as the weather is kind, it's a great evening.

I'll definately be back.
