I ran this marathon race back in 2023 when I was new to running, and all I can say is you must be prepared! The self-navigation isn’t always perfect to follow on the GPS, however, this year I didn’t get lost and it does quickly tell you if you are off course. It can take you across fields and over stiles, but as long as you pay attention to the GPS and don’t blindly follow someone else you will be alright. This is all clearly explained in the pre-race briefing on YouTube along with other tips and rules sent via email. There are only 4 aid stations, but since this is a trail running course that is to be expected due to the limitations of where they can be put. So bring plenty of fluids and snacks on you to keep yourself hydrated and energised, as it can get very hot this time of year. They do offer squash and plenty of sugary and savoury snacks, including sausage rolls and jelly sweets, so you can stock up if need be. The marshalls were all very supportive, friendly and talkative at each checkpoint, and some were cheering us on by name for added motivation when they saw us coming and going. I had informed the race director previously that I would like to run with my dog, and they very kindly provided water bowls at the aid station for him too (if you are going to run with your dog all I will say is keep in mind the livestock you will be passing, and that you may have to carry them over the stiles!) I love the Go Beyond events as they feel like you are exploring the Great British countryside at your own pace - once the mass start has spread out, you might be find yourself on your own along the route and can admire the beauty of Northamptonshire in your own time, even travelling through fields of livestock. The generous cut off of 9 hours makes it a very inclusive event, and I can’t wait to come back next year.

Overall a good event. Several sections were single track so if you're aiming for speed it might be difficult. Easy to navigate, the GPX file was almost exactly accurate. You will be running across crop fields, sometimes without a clear path and might be surrounded by cattle. Check point teams were great, really friendly and good variety of food. An extra toilet stop might make this event more accessible to female participants but appreciate this is difficult to arrange. Beautiful views!

I do lots of LDWA challenge events, and this mostly had the same feeling. Except for checkpoints where the reception was a lot more boisterous and welcoming! Also there were quite a few supporters around the course, following their family or friend participants, at least participants at the same pace as myself. The event was quite a bit more expensive than LDWA, but was very professional, well run and organised. The marathon time limit was very generous ( so i am very likely to come back again), and enabled me to be overtaken by friends doing the ultra on three different occasions! The route and terrain show off the best of Northamptonshire countryside. Some of the paths were not visible on the ground for 4 fields at around 18 miles, but the GPX was great, so if the farmers dont mark the path, their crops will get trampled. Their choice?
