Salford is flat and fast.
It is not beautiful
It is not rolling countryside
It's a urban trashfest.
The Marshals and organisation are wonderful and make the event. Waves are well separated and make the event flow without over crowding.
Feed/drink stations are basic (cups of water)
Laps have their own challenge (but you know that when you sign up)
I enjoyed it but probably won't do next year (it clashes with other races).

The swim is fantastic. Clean water, great support around the Quay and really quick. The bike is good for spectators, as 8 loops keep you coming past time and again. The logistical challenges around MCUK are a problem though. Up and down curbs, tight turns. Not a high speed course. Maybe a longer road route so you only have to pass this point 3 or 4 times would be better. The run is very twisty, turny and congested, but again, it's well supported. The marshalling was very good and all were so supportive.
A city centre tri will always be difficult to organise. I'm so glad it's held each year. I'd love to see a bike / run course out along closed roads into Manchester. Could be a huge international event!

It turns out that eight laps of Salford Quays' industrial back streets is as tedious as it sounds. And on really poor roads (Salford Council doing their best to make it look like the roads of Stalingrad in 1941) made it a dull and frustrating 40km ride. I can't think why, apart from the difficulty of closing roads, the organisers picked such a poor bike course. It also made it a bit of a draft party at times.
It's a shame because the swim was excellent (spacious, quick and easy to navigate) and the run was well-supported. The marshals were stars and the crowds were good to see. I won't do it again as the bike course was really poor and it was fairly expensive for an Olympic Tri.
One bad thing was some of the other competitors. Littering at a race has never been as bad as it was as this. The bike course, a maximum of 25 miles, was littered with gels from start to finish. Who needs that many? Why be a scumbag and litter? Nothing to do with organisers I suppose but BTF judges should've been more active.

This was my first triathlon and I had a great time - thank you to all involved!
The swim was great and easy to navigate.
The bike had a couple blind twists and turns, and perhaps it's a shame that you had to complete so many laps for the distance (as a 1st timer i don't know whether this is to be expected). Unfortunartely I smashed into the back of a pedestrian who was on the course. It was on the last bridge and I was happily going around him until the steward shouted for him to move - at which point he turned straight into my path. The guy should have been told to stay on the other side but wasn't i guess?
The run was very twisty - i guess this means that the spectators can see more of the event which makes it a better spectator event possibly - but makes the run less fun.
But to be honest - I loved it!!

This was my first Salford Olympic distance tri.
Information leading up to the event was good.
Registration process easy.
Nice big transition area and easy to find- near to the swim - although some marshals telling people to rack bike facing front which caused very minor problems for those racking with front wheel facing out.
Car parking excellent.
Swim was great, bike route quite fast although not the most scenic and would have preferred fewer laps (6) and a bit more variety in the course.
Although knew what to expect living nearby.
Run enjoyable enough winding around Media City four times although again maybe a couple of laps would have been more preferable for me personally.
Support and the buzz around media city excellent. Marshals fantastic supporting the bike legs.
tracking app was a nice touch for those following me and my times.
photos excellent quality to keep and decent price
good bag pretty good and organisation excellent - how a triathlon should be organised and about what you should get for your money.
id do this again and highly recommend. Hopefully fewer laps and slight tweaks to run and bike for next year.

Could have been more info released prior to the race on things like parking, wave times, etc. Seemed a little last minute.
