A scenic lapped race through Heaton Park. I only took part in the 5k, so cannot comment on how the laps effected the overall experience. However, this was my first ever race and was really quite a good one for a first event! The hill was a bit of a killer so it’s certainly a challenging first one.

Getting there, registering, warming up and knowing when to start was all simple for a first timer, and the medal/flapjack and water at the end really did make it a memorable first experience. It would be interesting to run this route again with a few more races under my belt, so I’d run it again definitely.

Heaton park is my local parkrun so have run around it many times.  Have done a 10k here before and it was nice that run through have now added a half marathon to the days running.

The start is staggered to let the half marathon group get around the bit they do differentely before the 5 and 10k groups set off.  Heaton is notorious for a couple of its hills, the long slog up from the golf course up to the manor house is really tough.  Be warned you have to do it multiple times.

As it is in a park it felt more like a training run with other people, there are not too many people out supporting.  Nice event though and good to get my legs going for the distance.

Decided to run this race again after I ran it last year, I was better prepared for the hills!!!!!!! The whole organisation of the event was spot on, the only issue couldn't be helped because it was down to the weather, it was blowing a gale all day, meaning the marquees were being blown away and it was quite hard to attach your number and timing chip. I ran the 10K, which means I ran two laps of the course, around the grounds, which is a no traffic course but open to others who are there who aren't taking part in the races. There were also 5K and Half Marathon distances. At each lap there was a water station. The goody bag includes, medal, flapjack, banana, a Pic's Peanut butter slug and a 1ltr bottle of water.
