I wasn’t in the race but supported the event. I followed the parking information and it said to use the park& ride as buses would start from 7:30am. I arrived 7:45am the queue for the buses was already exceptionally long. I wasn’t racing but could fell the tension in the racers around me. Everyone was looking at the time. People were pushing to the front of the bus queue. When we got on the bus the Company was charging fares … this was crazy and taking more time. Anyway, this spoilt the start of the event for many. It was disorganised chaos. I got to the start line at 8:55am and I know there were so many people still back at the park & ride. You needed more early buses and charging to get on them … that needs a better plan when there are so many people. I enjoyed watching the race, every racer worked so hard.

A decent half with a parallel marathon taking place at the same time. Lots of support from crowds and marshals. Fantastic event village with stalls, food tents and live music. Great weather. The greenway section of the course that included gravel was a bit hazardous, did not feel safe at all. A few roads weren't fully closed but rather separated runners from the incoming traffic by using cones.

A decent half with a parallel marathon. Stratford-upon-Avon village is very picturesque. Starts and finishes in town centre so able to get something to eat easily afterwards.

The course itself is pretty much flat, other than the hill at 8m - pretty steep, but once you’re over it you know you’re nearly there. Last bit is off road, which mentally was a little bit tough for a novice, but totally worth it for the personal shout out you get crossing the finish line! Would definitely do it again.

Review of Shakespeare Marathon 2019.
The registration was easy, and the start/finish line was well organised. The cost was very good for a marathon, but does not include the tech t-shirt which you can purchase separately.

The course starts in the town centre, beside the Tudor style houses with all the runners squeezed between these old fashioned buildings, which is great for atmosphere! The course then takes you a little bit through the town (I wish this was more), before heading into the countryside. The country views are very nice.
The course is NOT flat, it is quite undulating, if not hilly! You repeat the same circular route twice so at least you know what is coming on the second lap!
The course finishes on a playing fields, which is walking distance to the butterfly house, main canal and globe theatre (in centre of town), so that’s very handy.
Overall the course has a good feel, and I’d do it again.

Recommended!

Although not as flat as expected (especially the hill at 8 miles) this is a truly beautiful course.  The history of Stratford,  the beauty of the countryside,  and heading in towards the finish on the greenway.

You couldn't ask for a better organised,  marshalled,  supported race.  Plenty of water and wc stations,  a sponge station.

Right from arriving in Stratford you felt welcomed,  knew what was going on and where to be to make the start.

Marshals,  locals and visible first aid support throughout help spur you on,  even in the county lanes where you'd expect less crowds.

I found the conned area for the last mile rather frustrating as was too narrow,  but you get on with it, after all the finish is closing in.

Would I do it again,  YES, without a doubt.  Just with bit more hill training 😁

Really well organised, good local support and a lovely atmosphere. Parking was fine, i parked at a multistory car park and was easy to get out and not be stuck in traffic.

Was not impressed. Over priced. Nothing at the end other than a bottle of water a banana and a medal. Roads were not closed and felt at risk on certain parts of the course. 50mph roads with a cone to separate you from the incoming traffic. Will never do this one again. ...
