Pre-announced race map was incorrect, resulted in failed pace/nutrition plans. No water station in the last 8km, which is almost the half of the race. Water wasn’t handed out to runners, we had to stop and find a spot among other runners to find our opportunity to grab a cup. We had to bypass a 100m of the route due to flood by entering a thorny bush area causing wounds on our legs. There were missing route signs on several junctions leading runners toward wrong paths. The route was not secured at all. Local people/vehicles/cycles in the park weren’t informed of the race being held. We were aggressively over taken by gravel riders, almost tripped over free roaming pets/kids several times, were driven directly into by cars, had to cut through the cafe queue and its crowd at Pen Ponds Cafe. The “goodie bag” highly praised over to explain the event entry fee on their website ended up being a clear bin bag consisting of an apple, a brochure and mini Cadbury’s (instead of mugs, pens, magazines etc. as advertised).

Richmond Park Marathon is a lovely race, yes it's laps and yes it's lovely. The first lap if you can call it that is all over the place and doesn't follow the standard perimiter path (Tamsin Trail), however the last 2 laps do.

But saying this the trail is varied and with wild roaming deer around there is always something new to see.

One thing that a lot of people underestimate with Richmond Park is the hills, in fact on todays marathon a few people commented that they had been told by friends that it was a flat marathon.  With a total elevation gain (according to my watch) of just over 1200ft you can see that it's actually quite lumpy but that's the fun stuff isn't it :)

Would I recommend it, in one word yes, I've done it the last 2 years as well as this, thats not the kind of race that you don't bother returning to.

The water stops are just that water, if you want electrolytes or similar bring your own, however there was plenty of water as well as sliced bananas, apples, jelly babies etc.  And once through the finish line a table stocked up with various cakes which were tasty :)
