I am surprised that not more people race the Reading Triathlon. It's a beginner friendly event that encompasses a huge number of different event formats and distances including relays. The organization is excellent, the venue ideal and the routes are great. The lake can get a bit weedy, but it's natural and the water itself is clean and clear. The team does a great job of clearing a path, so the weeds are not really an issue. There are not many beginner friendly triathlons that offer a lake swim. The bike routes are pretty on generally quiet and generally decent roads. If you've time to look around, they're also attractive and I made a mental note to return for a more leisurely ride. The run is laps around the lake. The ground is a bit uneven, but doesn't present too many issues. Parking is some distance from the actual race venue, but in an excellent car park in the Green Park complex. If you ride from the car park to the venue, it's no more than 5 or 10 mins. Walking 10-20 mins.
