My first orienteering challenge (solo, female) and loved it despite the torrential rain all day. I saw a few other participants along the way so it was good to chat and check I hadn't taken a wrong path. It was also my first 'wild' event so the only toilets were public ones if we came across any; there were plenty of snacks and drinks at the checkpoints but no shelter even for the volunteers, not that they minded and gave everyone a warm welcome offering a hot drink and food while checking I was OK, not cold and OK to carry on - I did wonder if changing my socks in the rain was worth it as my shoes were sodden. The homemade chilli at the finish was perfect to warm up, but I forgot to go back for fruit crumble & custard. I'll definitely do it again, I need to complete it in under 12 hours!

I took part in the Back Before Dark 10k - great hilly race, very scenic and brilliant challenge (racing the sun). Really well organised by a nice team.

A really well organised event from signing up to finishing on the day. Exceptional check points in stunning locations, choice of supplies to help fuel along the route. Great public transport links, also off road parking for those that choose to drive. The HQ is also the start finish for this race with the addition of the ‘cafe’ which gives you the option of a drink/food pre race and again at the end where a delicious hot meal was served, all included in the entry price. This race has a lovely calm feel about it, Will Sheaf as race director has created a fabulous, very friendly event with several distance options to choose from. Will be back next year for the 3rd year in a row.
